Welcome to smiles4children, Pediatric Dental Practice. Where children feel at home and start their journey for a lifetime of good oral health. The dental needs of young children are very specific and they have special emotional needs as well.

Our practice has the experience and compassion to tend to both aspects. We strive to build trust and confidence with our patients as well as educate parents and caregivers – a combination that leads to fantastic results. Doctors

Edward L. Ginsberg, D.D.S.*

Photo_Dr_Ginsberg_166x221Dr. Edward Ginsberg was born and raised in Baltimore. Majoring in Biology, he received his undergraduate degree from Western Maryland College. Dr. Ginsberg attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry from which he graduated magna cum laude. Upon graduation he was awarded the Certificate of Honor and was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental fraternity, which is reserved for the top 10% academic average and service among dental graduates. Dr. Ginsberg was also awarded the American Society of Dentistry for Children award, which is the top prize given in children’s dentistry. He completed his post-graduate specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland.

In 1984, Dr. Ginsberg founded the smiles4children dental practice. The following year he joined the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry as a part-time clinical assistant professor, and is a member of the Dean’s Faculty. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Ginsberg has served as president of the Maryland Society of Dentistry for Children and the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a member of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners sedation committee, and a member of the examination committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

As a member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Craniofacial Team, he evaluates patients with cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial syndromes. He is also on staff at Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland Rehabilitative and Orthopedic Institute, and Sinai hospitals. Dr. Ginsberg lectures frequently to dental students, residents, dental study clubs, and professional and community organizations on various pediatric dental topics.

Dr. Ginsberg is happily married, has two married children and four grandsons. His interests outside of dentistry are photography, skiing, biking, tennis, swimming, and spending time with his family.

Rachael L. Simon, D.D.S.

Rachael L. Simon, D.D.S.

Dr. Rachael Simon is from Northern Virginia and has settled in Howard County with her family. She has been practicing pediatric dentistry since completing her post-graduate degree in 2000. Dr Simon received her dental degree in 1998 from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland at Baltimore. She was a member of the Gorgas Odontological Honor Society and received the Leonard Rapport Memorial Award for excellence in dental pharmacology. After completing dental school she entered an advanced pediatric dental training program at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery where she earned her certificate in pediatric dentistry. During her training she was on staff at the University of Maryland Medical Center and Kernan Hospital.

Dr Simon’s goal is to promote oral health care throughout the community. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is the past president of the Carroll County Dental Society and has also served as the president of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Simon is currently serving as a member of The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Clinical Affairs.  She has volunteered her time as a trainer for the Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. program where she lectures to local dentists on how to recognize neglect and child abuse in the dental setting.  Dr. Simon is a member of the medical staff at Kernan Hospital.

Dr. Simon is married to her loving husband David. They have two wonderful daughters, Sydney and Joanna. Her interests include playing soccer, traveling, watching Baltimore sports teams and spending time with her family and their two dogs.

Deven V. Shroff, D.M.D.*

Deven V. Shroff, D.M.D.Dr. Shroff was born in India and moved to Philadelphia as a child. He attended Temple University and Temple University School of Dentistry, where he earned his undergraduate and dental degrees with honors. He was awarded a Health Professions Scholarship by the US Army and served as an Army Dentist for nearly nine years. As an army dentist, Dr. Shroff served in an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Internship at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Following his internship, he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany where he served as Chief of General Dentistry. He then returned to the United States to complete his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX. As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Shroff was stationed in Seoul, Korea, where he served as Chief of Pediatric Dentistry. In 2003, he completed his military service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as Chief of Pediatric Dentistry in Washington, DC and as a residency mentor at Fort Meade.

Dr. Shroff is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He has served as the President of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and currently serves as a member of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners Sedation Committee and as the Northeast District Trustee for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatrics, Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Shroff serves as a pediatric dentistry consultant and guest lecturer to the US Army Dental Corps. He is a volunteer Dean’s Faculty member at the University of Maryland Dental School, where he enjoys teaching pediatric dentistry to future dentists.

Dr. Shroff was a 2009 recipient of the ARC of Howard County Celebration of Excellence Award for Outstanding Service to Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. He is a member of the medical staff at both Kernan and Sinai Hospitals.

Dr. Shroff, in 2010, was elected by his peers and inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Dentists (ACD). The ACD is the oldest national honorary organization for dentists and was founded in 1920 to recognize dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry. The mission of the ACD is to advance excellence, ethics, professionalism and leadership in dentistry. Fellowship in the College is by invitation and based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society. Approximately 3.5% of all dentists are Fellows of the American College of Dentists.

In 2014, Dr. Shroff was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD). The ICD or the “College” is the oldest and largest international honor society for dentists in the world. Established in 1928, the College has over 12,000 members in 122 countries who have been awarded the prestigious title of Fellow in the ICD. This Fellowship is extended only by invitation. The nominated dentists must pass a rigorous, peer review process leading to recognition of the individual’s “outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.” Fellowship in the ICD is considered to be one of the highest honors in dentistry.

Dr. Shroff, with his loving wife, Mona, have two wonderful children, daughter Anjali and son Anand. His interests include traveling, hiking, biking and spending time with his children.

Choti Jahnigen, D.D.S.

Choti Jahnigen, D.D.S.Dr. Jahnigen was born in Toronto, Canada and moved shortly after to Columbia, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County and graduated Cum Laude with a dual degree in Biology and Psychology. Dr. Jahnigen earned her dental degree from the University of Maryland School of Dental Surgery where she also was invited to join both the Gamma Pi Delta Honor Society and the Gorgas Odontological Honor Society, highly selective societies which induct students exhibiting exceptional dental ability and character essential to the practice of dentistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Jahnigen was presented with the Maryland Society of Dentistry for Children Award for excellence in pedodontics. Completing her post-graduate specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC., Dr. Jahnigen served as chief resident from 1992-1993.  Her training and hands-on experience ranged from emergency room dentistry to treating and counseling children with cleft palate to dealing with the special needs of medically compromised children.

A member of the Maryland Society of Dentistry for Children and the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Jahnigen practiced dentistry in Columbia, MD before joining a very successful practice in Annapolis, MD. In 1997, she accepted a 13-month position with the US army and worked as a contract dentist in Kitzingen, Germany treating the dependent children of the military personnel stationed there. She and her family spent the year touring Europe and learning the German language. Following her return, she remained with the practice in Annapolis for a total of 15 years before deciding to join smiles4children in August of 2007.

Her husband Greg is also from Maryland and is the Director of Technology at the Severn School in Severna Park. They have lived happily with their three boys, Zachary, Nathan and Sammy in Catonsville, MD since 1989. Together they enjoy camping, skiing, hiking, traveling and spending time with their friends and family.

Nathinee Jaiarj, D.D.S.*

Nathinee Jaiarj, D.D.S.Dr. Jaiarj was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand where she attended Chulalongkorn University Dental School, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1997. After practicing for three years at a hospital in an underserved area and private dental offices in Thailand, she came to the United States for her dental specialty training. She received a certificate of graduate study in pediatric dentistry from Boston University in Massachusetts in 2002 and was awarded a resident research award upon her graduation. Dr. Jaiarj continued her fellowship program in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland and obtained her Maryland state dental license. During the pediatric dental fellowship program, she not only served as a part-time visiting clinical instructor at the University of Maryland, she also provided dental care at the Carroll County Health Department Dental Clinic. She joined smiles4children in September 2006 and works as a full-time pediatric dentist.

Dr. Jaiarj is currently a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She serves as a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Jaiarj interests includes traveling, photography, tennis, dogs, cooking, home decorating, and piano.

Catherine Kolasny, D.D.S.

Dr. Catherine Kolasny was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at The University of Maryland Baltimore County and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Maryland, Baltimore. While attending UMB Dental School, she fostered her love for treating children and became president of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Student Chapter.

Dr. Kolasny was published for her contribution to research on early childhood caries and 100% juice. In addition, she was recognized with the Adele and Barry Cohan Pediatric Dental Post-Graduate Scholarship Award and the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Award for her involvement and dedication to pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kolasny continued her education at NYU Langone Health’s Residency Program on the Eastern Shore.

She has treated many children throughout Maryland in both the dental clinic and the operating room. She is excited to join smiles4children and provide excellent and compassionate dental care to all children. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, going to the beach, and having fun with her goldendoodle, Ellie!

Jordan Virden, D.D.S.

Dr. Jordan Virden is from Ellicott City, Maryland. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech, with an undergraduate degree in biology. While at the University she spent time volunteering at a dental clinic for an underserved population in southwest Virginia. It was there that she established an interest in dentistry. Dr. Virden is a former smiles4children patient who later joined our staff as a dental assistant and developed a love of pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Virden obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She was invited to join the Gamma Pi Delta Honor Society and served as president of both the Student Dental Association and the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Student Chapter. She was selected by the faculty to serve as co-chief resident.

Dr. Virden earned prestigious awards including; the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry, the Katherine Toomey Award for Devotion to the School and to the Profession, and the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Community Service. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Association of Women Dentists.

Dr. Virden and her husband, Luke, enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and going on adventures with their yellow lab, Rumsey. She also enjoys cheering on Baltimore sports teams and her favorite Virginia Tech Hokies!

Diane Manger

Diane Manger brings 35 years of dental experience to smiles4children. Her skills include assisting in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, appliance fabrication, and treatment of patients under general anesthesia at the hospital. She has been a member of the smiles4children staff for 25 years, and has been working as the clinical coordinator since 2007. She is responsible for managing the clinical team so that our staff provides outstanding care for our patients. Diane lives in Catonsville with her husband Jeff. She enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Our Hygiene Team

Our hygiene staff emphasizes prevention through education and hands on instruction. Patients and parents are provided with instructions on diet, oral habits individualized DH recommendations. Your child will have the tools to maintain optimal oral health.
